KAMPUNG AYER (WATER VILLAGE)



Kampung Ayer is situated at Brunei Bay in area at Bandar Seri Begawan. This water village are existed since 10th century. Each village with their own leader that are called head of village. Most of the water village house are made from wood. This village has 13 villages with 2,000 peoples. In the past Antonio Pigafetta has come to this village and during that time Kampung Ayer is the biggest water village in the world. In the past also palace are located at this village. History that have in this village in the past local people used to trade in this village which are called 'padian'. They used canoe as their transport to trade.





 But nowadays, this water village not like the old days. This villages also have electricity, clean water, schools, and many more. How to get in the water village? By using water taxi in front of Yayasan Jetty. There are many water taxi in this area which cost $1.00.

In this village there is a museum which are called 'Kampung Ayer Cultural&Tourism Gallery'. This museum is one of the Brunei's cultural galleries. There are 5 galleries altogether most of it is all about the Kampung Ayer itself. This museum is also selling handicrafts from the handmade of local people located at the Gallery Area. Kampung Ayer&Cultural Tourism Gallery is open during opening hours 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. on Friday 9.00 a.m. - 11.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. - 5.00 p.m. During public holiday these museum are closed.
