SULTAN OMAR ALI SAIFUDDIEN MOSQUE

Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque was located at the heart of the city, Bandar Seri Begawan. It was a major landmark attraction to tourists. This mosque started built on 1954 and officially open on 26 September 1954 on Friday during Maghrib prayer by Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III (28th Sultan). Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien mosque is one of the first stone building during the 15th century.



This mosque is uniting with Mughal architecture and Italian style. The big gold dorm is made from the pure gold.  The white marble is from the Shanghai granite. There are 99 stain glasses above the door which symbolize the 99 name of God (Allah). The carpet inside the mosque is handmade arabic carpet which import from Saudi Arabia. The minaret has an elevator to the top,which can enjoy the panoramic view of the city.


The pictures that are shown are called the Royal Barge which completed built on 1967 used to people recite Holy Al-Quran. This barge is the Replica of the Royal Barge Sultan Bolkiah. The lake is the man-made lake.

There are several rules need to be follow before entering the mosque:

  • take off your shoes before entering the mosque
  • wear proper dress
  • for non-muslim need to wear robe that have been provided
  • no taking picture are allowed inside the mosque, only taking pictures outside the mosque are allowed
Time during visit this mosque are not open during prayer time and this mosque do not open for visitor on Thursday and Friday.
